WINNING HAS A PRICE. LEADERSHIP HAS A PRICE.
– Michael Jordan
I want to bust a myth.
When it comes to developing the mindset of a champion, it’s not all positive self-talk and rainbows.
There is a common misconception that I have come across time and time again in my work as a high performance psychologist, that “mental conditioning” or “working on the mental side of performance” equates to giving yourself a motivational kick up the ass and visualising yourself sailing your yacht in the Caribbean.
If Michael Jordan had relied on just giving himself a pep talk as the only mental component of his game, we wouldn’t have a basketball legend to look up to and … selfishly … we wouldn’t have had the pleasure of watching The Last Dance on Netflix to pass the time in lockdown.
The mindset of a true winner is actually an entire lifestyle philosophy.
What do you think separates a winner from a runner up in terms of mentality?
